It’s been a while since the last AGMIY installment, so now after delving into Twine, I’ve got something completely different to show you. Have you ever wanted to make a puzzle game, but weren’t sure where to start?
Well, here you go.
Puzzle Script is an open source engine for creating tile-based puzzle games, developed and made available to you for nada by Increpare.
Puzzle Script is built in HTML5, and you run it straight from your browser. As though it wasn’t enough to provide Puzzle Script itself, Increpare has also provided extensive help to get you going:
- Rules 101 is an explanation of the basics you’ll need to start using Puzzle Script, with handy animated gifs for the visual learners in the crowd.
- The Full Documentation is everything else you might need to know. It’s impressive to see the lengths that Increpare has gone to to ensure that people will be able to pick up Puzzle Script with as much ease as possible.
But it doesn’t stop there. There are also numerous Puzzle Script games for you to try out, both in the form of tutorials that you can open up and deconstruct, and as games you can play in their own right. There are games from the likes of Droqen, Lexaloffle, Increpare, Terry Cavanagh and Tyler Glaiel.
So there you go, weekend sorted. Go make yourself a puzzle game.
