Adaptation – Black Lodge of Thrones

It is Friday the 13th – Black Friday… More like Black Lodgeday, am I right? Sorry, that doesn’t make any sense. I’m a little out of sorts you see, because I just discovered two – count them TWO – free TV tie-in games. Black Lodge 2600 is based on everybody’s favourite cult TV series Twin Peaks, and Game of Thrones: The 8-Bit Game is based on long-running children’s favourite, Sesame Street.

That was a lie.

Black Lodge 2600 by Jak Locke has actually been around since 2011, but better late than never. To truly master the game, sometimes your arms need to bend backwards. That was another lie.

As you may have gathered from the name, it’s inspired by Atari 2600 games of yore, and even includes the warning that JUST LIKE REAL ATARI GAMES, THOSE WHO DO NOT READ THE MANUAL ARE DOOMED TO CONFUSION.

It’s quite simple, but still manages to be suitably disconcerting. As with all unofficial titles based on licensed properties, it’s free. Download it here.

Game of Thrones: 8-bit is a must play for any fans of the series – if only for the 8-bit rendition of the theme song. It’s made in the clunky style of games from the 8-bit era, but with obviously made with a great knowledge of, and love for, the show. If the rudimentary controls don’t put you off, you’ll eventually be able to play as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and Davos Seaworth, each of whom has different abilities.

It’s free to download here. And remember… Winter is coming… If you’re in the northern hemisphere.
